Essex Town Little League Player & Family Code of Conduct

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Continue good relationships with other teams and towns
  • Create a positive, supportive, and safe environment for all players, coaches, officials and spectators
  • Encourage and teach respect to ETLL players
  • Comply with Little League Child Protection Policy found at www.littleleague.org

The following code of conduct outlines the behaviors and responsibilities expected of both players and parents/families and their guests to ensure that every member of our league can thrive and enjoy their experience. Every player, coach, and parent represents ETLL and should conduct themselves accordingly on every field of play.

Enforcement and Consequences

Participation in ETLL practices, games, and activities and the use of the facilities is a privilege. If you choose to break the code of conduct, you will be subject to disciplinary action.  Any person failing to adhere to the ETLL code of conduct at any game or practice may be asked to leave the sports facility and be suspended from the following game and may result in a meeting with league officials. Repeat violations may cause a multiple game suspension, or the season forfeiture of the privilege of attending all games.

By participating in Essex Town Little League, both players and families agree to uphold these standards and work together to create a positive experience for all involved. We appreciate your support in helping us achieve our goals of sportsmanship, respect, and community.

  1. Respect the Game: I will play the game with integrity, showing respect for the rules, coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials. I will strive to improve my skills and give my best effort in every practice and game.

  2. Sportsmanship: I will demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times, win or lose. I will congratulate opponents for their success and accept defeat gracefully.

  3. Teamwork: I will work together with my teammates, supporting one another both on and off the field. I understand that success is built on collaboration and trust within the team.

  4.  Effort & Attitude: I will always give my best effort, stay positive, and be willing to learn from my mistakes. I will maintain a good attitude even when faced with challenges.

  5.  Respect for Coaches and Officials: I will follow the guidance of my coaches and listen to their instructions. I will respect the decisions of the umpires and other officials, even if I don’t agree with them.

  6. Health and Safety: I will maintain my health and fitness to the best of my ability, and I will always notify my coach if I am feeling unwell or injured.

  7. No Tolerance for Bullying or Discrimination: I will treat others with kindness and respect, regardless of differences in ability, background, or appearance. Bullying, harassment, or discrimination will not be tolerated.

  8. Responsibility: I will take care of my equipment and playing fields, attend practices and games regularly, and notify my coach in advance if I cannot attend.

Essex Town Little League Parent/Family (and their guests) Code of Conduct

  1. Supportive Behavior: I will support my child’s participation in Essex Town Little League with enthusiasm, encouragement, and positivity. I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

  2. Respect for Coaches and Officials: I will respect the decisions and authority of the coaches and officials. I will not engage in arguments or disputes with coaches, players, umpires, or other families, and will address any concerns respectfully through proper channels

  3.  Positive Environment: I will create a positive environment by fostering good sportsmanship and encouraging my child to show respect for teammates, opponents, and all participants. I will model the behavior I expect from my child. I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of athletes.

  4.  Constructive Communication: I will communicate constructively and respectfully with my child’s coach, understanding that coaching feedback is meant to benefit the players and the team. I will respect the coach’s role and the time and effort they dedicate to the team.  I will not coach my child or other players during games or practice unless I am one of the official coaches of the team. I will not ridicule or yell at my child or other participants for making a mistake or losing a game. I will not boo, taunt, refuse to shake hands, or use profane language or gestures.

  5.  Encourage Fun, Not Pressure: I understand that my child’s enjoyment of the game is the top priority. I will not force my child to participate. I will not put undue pressure on my child to perform or win, but instead, I will encourage them to enjoy the experience, learn, and develop. I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning.

  6. Respect the Facility and Equipment: I will ensure that my child respects the league’s facilities and equipment, and I will encourage proper care and cleanliness both at the field and during travel.

  7.  No Tolerance for Bullying or Discrimination: I will ensure my child treats coaches, officials, and other players with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex, or ability. I will not tolerate or participate in bullying, harassment, or discrimination in any form. I will encourage an inclusive, supportive environment where all children and families feel welcome and valued.

  8.  Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco: I understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs is prohibited at all Essex Town Little League events and facilities. I will adhere to this policy for the safety and well-being of all participants.

  9. Set a Good Example: I will be a positive role model for my child and others by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating sportsmanship through positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game and practice. I understand that my behavior reflects on my child and the league as a whole.
